Indonesia, Masterpiece Trip 2017

Campuhan Ridge Walk, Karsa Spa, and Crispy Duck (Bali, Day 2)

The only thing we had planned for the day was a few treatments at the #1 Spa in Ubud. I had read that there was an easy ridge walk you could do to get to the spa. Clearly my version of easy and the author’s version are completely different animals. At the end of the walk it told me I had completed 28 flights of stairs – so several hills. It was about 5 degrees hotter than the walk we did to town the day before, and that really made a difference. This time there was no rain and there were fewer clouds. Hot! Thank goodness for my trusty umbrella. It really helps with the heat and I don’t care how silly I look. This walk seems to be more popular with the tourists than the one yesterday, but the views were just as beautiful. Time to walk!

Walking Through The Rice Patties On A Spring Day.

The highlight of our first day in Bali was a walk we did from close to the villa where we are staying to Ubud center. It took about 45 minutes, and the views were hard to beat! The WiFi here is very bad and I can’t get to my photos, but if I remember (it’s probably not going to happen) I will add them into this post later. In the meanwhile, you can see them on Instagram here. I had read before we came that WiFi is spotty on Bali, so expect to see more on Instagram for the next few days until the situation improves.

EVA Air, Masterpiece Trip 2017

EVA Air Review; JFK -> TPE Royal Laurel Class

On a 16 hour flight there is no way on God’s green earth that I can fly in economy. Especially on an Asian airline where the leg room is even more limited. Thank goodness for frequent flyer miles. As soon as the big trip was a glimmer of an idea we started saving miles any way we could. 85,000 miles (each way) and many months later, here we are. We’d never flown on EVA air before, but I’d only read good things.

Masterpiece Trip 2017, Planning

Holy Crap. It’s Happening.

It’s surreal to me that after planning this trip for so many months the time has finally come. Yesterday I worked on setting reminders on my phone for things that need following up during this mammoth adventure and so far there are 36. Please don’t let me lose my phone. There’s a lot of moving parts to this trip, and I’m so paranoid that I’ve forgotten something vital. Like Santa, I’m checking my lists twice (and thrice).

Our first flight is 16 hours long. That’s a new record for us, edging out South Africa by an hour. And yes, friends, at some point I *will* get the Africa pics and posts up here, as well. Unfortunately that’s looking like 2018. Oops! So that’s why we are trying to stay on top of this huge trip and post as we go; it’s too hard to catch up later on.

So the plan will be to post about each destination we visit, with pics. There might also be additional pics posted to Instagram when we don’t have time or bandwidth for a full post. We’ll do our best.

Goals for this trip:

  • Safety
  • Good health
  • Everything else is a bonus

We have some fantastic things planned. Come along for the ride!
